Updated October 9, 2026
The Southern Girls Hockey League (SGHL) wants every family, player, coach and volunteer to be able to use this website, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard instead of a mouse, zoom, or other assistive technology.
Our goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. These are the widely used international guidelines for making websites easier to use for people with disabilities.
What we do
- Text and buttons have strong color contrast, so they're easy to read. Team pages switch to navy when a team's own color would make the text hard to read.
- The site is built for phones first, and you can zoom in without losing anything.
- The site is built to work with a keyboard, with a visible outline showing where you are.
- Photos have short descriptions for screen readers. Volunteers are asked to describe each photo they add, and the site lists any that are missing so we can fix them.
- Pages use proper headings and labels, so screen readers can move around them easily.
- Forms say clearly what each box is for, and explain what went wrong if something can't be sent.
Known limits
- Schedules, scores and stats in the Game Center and on team pages come from GameSheet, an outside service. We can't change how those parts work. If you can't read them, email us and we'll send you the schedule another way.
- Older documents, such as PDF files, may not be fully accessible. Ask us and we'll send the information in another format.
- Photos from teams and events are described by the volunteers who add them, so some descriptions may be short.
Tell us about a problem
If something on this site is hard to use, please email info@sghlhockey.org. Tell us the page and what happened. We're volunteers, but we'll reply as soon as we can, and we'll help you get the information you need in the meantime.
How we check
We check the site ourselves on phones and computers, including with a keyboard and with automated accessibility tools, and we review it again when we make bigger changes.
