Privacy at the Southern Girls Hockey League
Updated October 17, 2026
The Southern Girls Hockey League (SGHL) is a volunteer-run nonprofit. We collect as little information as we can, use it only to run the league and keep families informed, and never sell it to anyone.
What we collect and why
Newsletter. If you sign up, we keep your email address and whether you're a parent, family member or fan, or a player. We use it to send league news. You confirm your email address before we send anything, and every newsletter has an unsubscribe link. Coaches and organization managers are added to their own lists while they help run a team. If they unsubscribe, we never add them back.
Game-time alerts. If you ask us to email you when game times post, we keep your email address and the divisions you picked. These alerts go out for the weekend or season you chose, and we delete your address when the season ends. Every alert has a "Stop these alerts" link.
Finding a team. When you tell us about a player who wants to join, we ask for a parent's name and email address, her age group and her birth year, and anything you'd like to add. We never ask for her name. If you send it from an organization's page, it goes to that organization, with a copy to the league, so they can contact you. Otherwise the league helps you find a team.
Other forms. When you contact us, ask a rules question, register a team, volunteer or ask us to remove a photo, we keep what you type into the form so we can answer you or set things up. Team registrations are also stored in a Google Sheet that only league volunteers can open.
Volunteer and photographer accounts. Volunteers who help run the league or a team, and the photographers we invite, have accounts on this site. We keep their name, email address and the team or role they help with. If they sign in with Google, we get only their name and email address. Each time photographers send photos, they agree to our photo agreement, and we keep a record of which version they agreed to and when.
Team finder. When you search by ZIP code or city, we don't save the search.
Rosters and stats
Team rosters and game stats come from GameSheet, the league's scorekeeping system. They show players' names, jersey numbers and stats. This is the same information that is already public through USA Hockey and GameSheet.
Photos
We share photos from games and events on team, event and news pages and in league news and promotion. Most are taken by parents and volunteer photographers, who keep ownership of their photos and give the league permission to use them. Before any photo goes on the site, we remove the hidden location data phones add, and a league volunteer reviews it.
If you'd like a photo of your child taken down, use the photo removal form on our Contact page, or email us, and we'll remove it promptly.
Who sees your information
Only the league volunteers who need it to do their job. A few companies run things for us and handle your information only to provide that service: Hostinger hosts this website, Google Workspace sends our emails, MailPoet's sending service delivers our newsletter, and Google's reCAPTCHA checks our forms for spam. Our fonts load from Google Fonts, which sees your device's internet address when a page opens.
Other companies' content on our site
Schedules, scores, rosters and stats come from GameSheet and are shown in frames on our pages, so GameSheet's own privacy policy applies to them. Some pages link to Google Maps for directions, to the livestream services the rinks we play at use, such as LiveBarn, and to our merchandise store, which is run by an outside company. Once you follow those links, their privacy policies apply.
Cookies
This site only uses basic cookies for volunteers who are logged in. Google's reCAPTCHA sets its own cookies on pages with forms, and GameSheet's frames may set their own.
Children
Newsletter sign-up is for ages 13 and up. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has signed up, email us and we'll remove them. If you're a player under 18, please let a parent know you've signed up.
How long we keep things
Newsletter sign-ups stay until you unsubscribe. Game-time alert addresses are deleted when the season ends. Once a message has been dealt with, we delete it automatically: questions about finding a team after 6 months, and other messages and team registrations after 2 years. Messages our spam check flags are deleted after 30 days. The league may change these times, and this page will say so.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from any email using the link at the bottom. To ask what we have about you, or to have it removed, email us.
